Library Spectacular
at the Fond du Lac Public Library @ Fond du Lac Public Library

Check out all the COOL activities happening at the Fond du Lac Public Library.  There’s something for everyone the week and weekend of Sturgeon Spectacular.  See below for details: ome to the Fond du Lac Public Library for some cool Take-and-Make activities for all ages.  These are free kits that can be picked up at the main circulation desk inside the Fond du Lac Public Library located at 32 Sheboygan Street.  Please use the parking lot entrance on the south side of the building or the curb-side pick-up area on Portland Street, and call the main library line (920-929-7080).  And see more at the FDL Public Library Facebook Page here.

Monday, February 7th:

Join us for our Evening Craft Class for adults held monthly in the McLane Room.  For February, we will offer a Sturgeon Spectacular-themed crafting activity.  The Fond du Lac Public Library will provide the supplies.  Registration is required, so please register in advance at fdlpl.org and click on “Calendar”.

Friday, February 11th & Saturday, February 12th:

Check out the windows adjacent to the north entrance for a fun Sturgeon Spectacular display!  Also, drop into the Children’s Room inside the main branch for a great Sturgeon Spectacular-themed youth activity. Activities include:

  • Find all the clues for the scavenger hunt and win a small prize
  • Measure yourself against a sturgeon and see how big and amazing these fish are
  • Check out our special fishing hole and try to catch something yourself

Running of the Sturgeon
Block Party @ Downtown Fond du Lac
Feb 11 @ 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

The Running of the Sturgeon will take a new form in 2022 where your whole family can follow the elusive sturgeon to any of our participating locations.  If you spot the sturgeon and can “spear him”, ask him for a drink and he cannot refuse.  There will be activities and hot cocoa for kids at each location.  Find the sturgeon at any of the locations listed below between 5:30pm and 7:30pm for your free drink*.  Don’t miss the official lighting of the sturgeon at 7pm in front of Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts.  One lucky winner will be able to illuminate the sturgeon and sculptures to officially start the weekend.

The Sturgeon Spectacular kicks off at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts on Friday night!

THELMA is bringing Alex Wilson Trio.  Enjoy music inside THELMA and warm up by dancing or enjoying a hot beverage! Plus watch the snow sculptors get their pieces started! Drink specials will be available for purchase steps away inside THELMA’s art gallery including spiked hot cocoa and more.

Cash Bar will be open starting at 7pm

Spearing and Beering
presented by Lakefront Brewery & Lee Beverage @ Lakeside Park Pavilion

Come to the Lakefront Brewery bar set up inside Lakeside Park Pavilion.  Party inside in the warmth or take it outside on the frozen Lake Winnebago or the patio.  Participate in games including Hammerschlagen, Kuub, ice bowling, broom ball, or join the Outdoor Curling Funspiel.   Concessions will be offered by Downtown Deli, Market & Cafe.  Lakefront Brewery, the official beer sponsors of Sturgeon Spectacular will be doing a Special Tapping of a Lakefront Exclusive starting at noon – while supplies last!  Spear the Beer Commemorative Steins will also be available – while supplies last.

Check out the Live Look-ins at Wendt’s on the Lake to see sturgeon on the big screen inside the pavilion.  Live feeds will be occurring every hour, on the hour starting at 10am and ending at 4pm.

Interactive Sturgeon Art

*NEW in 2022* FDL Artists Association  will be at Thelma Sadoff Center of the Arts proudly bringing Spinning Sturgeon Mobiles for kids.  Work on your sturgeon mobile inside THELMA or take a kit to do at home.  Mobile kits will be available Saturday, February 12th (10am – 2pm) at Thelma.

Activity is free for kids!  100 kits available.  First come, first served.

Downtown Chili Crawl presented by

Feeling “chili” from all that time on the ice? Celebrate the Sturgeon Spectacular with a walk in Downtown Fond du Lac for the 13th Annual Chili Crawl being held Saturday, February 12th, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

For just $10, crawlers can taste different chili concoctions made by our downtown businesses. The downtown business voted into the top spot gets the bragging rights of being called the year’s best chili!

On the morning of the event bring your ticket to 131 S. Main Street to check-in. There you will receive your official chili crawl map and voting ballot. Check-in opens at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. Chili is available beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Ballots will be split to allow voting on best restaurant chili and best home-cooked chili. Feel free to choose your own route for each stop.

The last stop on the crawl is Hopper’s Silk Screening and All-Star Trophy where your completed ballot can be redeemed by 2:00 p.m. for an official Chili Crawl commemorative pint glass.
