ACE Academy Shanty Raffle

The ACE Shanties Project was spearheaded by C.D. Smith Construction’s Foundation Committee with material donations provided by a variety of local businesses. The project began in May of 2019 with blueprints, construction began in September of the same year, and the project was completed in early 2020.

To raise funds for the A.C.E. Academy and raffle partners, Foot of the Lake Fishing Club, one of the shanties will be raffled off during the Sturgeon Spectacular festivities on Saturday, February 12th at 2pm. Walk through the shanty and see what it’s like to be out on the ice with the other 10,000+ spearers out on the lake prior to giveaway.

“Best Memories” Photo Contest

Join us in celebrating the Sturgeon Spectacular, the beauty of winter, and more importantly SNOW!  Sunburst Ski Hill believes that the best memories are made with snow, and we agree!  Get your family, friends, or go outside solo and find your best winter backdrop.

Contest Rules:

All ages are eligible to participate.  Submit a photo to Facebook using #SunburstBestMemories or send an email to info@fdlfest.com with subject line “Sunburst Best Memories” before Monday, February 14th and you’ll be entered to win four Sunburst ski or tubing passes and some really cool Sturgeon Spectacular gear.  Judges will select the winner from all entrants on Tuesday, February 15th and the winner will be posted on the Fond du Lac Festivals and Destination Lake Winnebago Facebook pages.

To qualify, photos must include snow and capture “The Best Memories”.

Join us for our Evening Craft Class for adults held monthly in the McLane Room.  For February, we will offer a Sturgeon Spectacular-themed crafting activity.  The Fond du Lac Public Library will provide the supplies.  Registration is required, so please register in advance at fdlpl.org and click on “Calendar”.

Friday, February 11th & Saturday, February 12th:

Check out the windows adjacent to the north entrance for a fun Sturgeon Spectacular display!  Also, drop into the Children’s Room inside the main branch for a great Sturgeon Spectacular-themed youth activity. Activities include:

  • Find all the clues for the scavenger hunt and win a small prize
  • Measure yourself against a sturgeon and see how big and amazing these fish are
  • Check out our special fishing hole and try to catch something yourself

Come to the Lakefront Brewery bar set up inside Lakeside Park Pavilion.  Party inside in the warmth or take it outside on the frozen Lake Winnebago or the patio.  Participate in games including Hammerschlagen, Kuub, ice bowling, broom ball, or join the Outdoor Curling Funspiel.   Concessions will be offered by Downtown Deli, Market & Cafe.  Lakefront Brewery, the official beer sponsors of Sturgeon Spectacular will be doing a Special Tapping of a Lakefront Exclusive starting at noon – while supplies last!  Spear the Beer Commemorative Steins will also be available – while supplies last.

Check out the Live Look-ins at Wendt’s on the Lake to see sturgeon on the big screen inside the pavilion.  Live feeds will be occurring every hour, on the hour starting at 10am and ending at 4pm.

Wisconsin Snow Sculpting Championship presented by Grande Cheese @ Downtown, outside Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts

The best snow sculptors in the state travel to Fond du Lac to compete in the 2022 Wisconsin Snow Sculpting Competition in hopes of winning a trip to the 2023 US Championship and a $1,000 1st Prize.  Sculpting all weekend long.

Kids Fun Run & 5K
presented by SSM Health @ Lakeside Park Pavilion

Come and join us for a scenic run throughout Lakeside Park in Fond du Lac.  The course will circle through and tour Lakeside Park.

Registration will be open December 3rd through February 12th.  Race day registration will begin at 9am on February 12th at Lakeside Park inside the pavilion. The 1/2 mile Kids Fun Run for ages 12 and under is absolutely free.  Early registration for the 5K will be available through midnight, Monday, January 24th.  You can still get a 2022 commemorative, long-sleeved T-shirt and registration for $20.  After Monday, January 24th, the price goes up to $25 and it will not include a Sturgeon Spectacular long-sleeve T-shirt.

Participants with strollers and/or dogs are asked to please line up in the back at the start.  Light breakfast items will be available for participants prior to the start.  Following the race, refreshments will be provided.  Please stick around for other awesome Sturgeon Spectacular festivities at Lakeside Park and within Downtown Fond du Lac.

Outdoor Curling Funspiel
presented by Horicon Bank @ Lake Winnebago (behind Lakeside Park Pavilion)

Presented by Horicon Bank, learn to Curl with curling experts from the state and participate in the 4th Annual  Fond du Lac Outdoor Funspiel. This tournament is designed to teach beginners the world of curling and have some fun in the process. Each match will last about 45 minutes. All curling equipment will be provided. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 12th. Open to all ages and levels. Get your team of 3 – 6 people (at least 3 are required to compete in each match) together and sign up.  Top 3 teams will receive medals, with top 2 teams receiving cash payouts ($250 for 1st / $100 for 2nd).  $60 entry fee per team.  Registration will close Friday, January 28th at midnight.

Biggest Sturgeon Competition

Are you a spearer?  Do you know a spearer?  If you or someone you know is lucky enough to spear a sturgeon on Opening Weekend this year, all sturgeon entered will win a prize Fleet Farm Gift Cards, Wendt’s Gift Cards, or even cold hard cash.  Bring your catch to Wendt’s on the Lake Saturday, February 12th (between 10am and 4pm) or Sunday, February 13th (10am – 2pm) and look for the Fleet Farm tent.  You and your fish will automatically be entered to win.  Wendt’s on the Lake is located atN9699 Lakeshore Dr, Van Dyne, WI 54979.

You can also enter our Facebook contest by using #FDLBigFish or by emailing your photo to info@fdlfest.com with name of spearer and weight of the fish.  All entries received will be entered to win $100 in cash.  That’s it, it’s that easy.  Open to all ages and legal harvest rules apply.

Entries must be received on Saturday, February 12th or Sunday, February 13th to qualify.  All entries will be collected and a random drawing will occur on Monday, February 14th.  Winners will be announced through Facebook or contacted through the email submitted.

Feeling “chili” from all that time on the ice? Celebrate the Sturgeon Spectacular with a walk in Downtown Fond du Lac for the 13th Annual Chili Crawl being held Saturday, February 12th, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

For just $10, crawlers can taste different chili concoctions made by our downtown businesses. The downtown business voted into the top spot gets the bragging rights of being called the year’s best chili!

On the morning of the event bring your ticket to 131 S. Main Street to check-in. There you will receive your official chili crawl map and voting ballot. Check-in opens at 10:30 a.m. and ends at 12 p.m. Chili is available beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Ballots will be split to allow voting on best restaurant chili and best home-cooked chili. Feel free to choose your own route for each stop.

The last stop on the crawl is Hopper’s Silk Screening and All-Star Trophy where your completed ballot can be redeemed by 2:00 p.m. for an official Chili Crawl commemorative pint glass.

Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides

The Breezy Hill Campground horse-drawn carriages will be taking trips to the Lighthouse and back from Lakeside Park Pavilion on Saturday, February 12th afternoon. Bring the family for the Winter Fun activities or warm up inside the Pavilion with some Strizek gaming fun or some Downtown Deli food.  A line will be formed in front of Lakeside Park Pavilion.  Each trip around Lakeside Park will be approximately 15 minutes and can fit 8 adults or older children.  Young children can ride on parent/guardian’s lap as well.

Amateur Snow Sculpting Competition @ Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts

Come solo or get your family/teams together to create your own snow sculpture, just like the professionals.  You will create your own snow form, sculpt and shape it until you’ve created your very own masterpiece.  Teams should consist of 1 – 4 individuals and they can range in age.  Check-in will be starting at 12:30pm in the THELMA lobby.  Pre-registration is encouraged to guarantee availability of snow blocks and tools.

Sturgeon Spectacular
Community Bonfire @ Lakeside Park Pavilion

Bring the whole family to see the glow from our huge bonfire at the Lakeside Park @ Pavilion Point.  Kids, grab a free hot chocolate, or purchase a S’mores Snack Kit at the Information Table for $5 (while supplies last).  There will be mini-fires for you to roast marshmallows and make your own S’mores.  4 S’mores per pack.  Enjoy music and comradery as the first day of sturgeon spearing comes to a close.  Food & drink available inside Lakeside Park Pavilion.

The outdoor Curling Lounge offers a great view to enjoy the curling action! Purchase and enjoy coffee, hot chocolate specials and more at THELMA’s bar located inside the art gallery.

THELMA continues to monitor and follow guidance from the Fond du Lac County Health Department, which recommends people wear a mask in public indoor settings, including fully vaccinated individuals, when in areas with substantial and high transmission. Masks are recommended for people ages two and older and are provided at the entrance of THELMA.
