Come get the party started out on the ice. Ice sailing and snow kiting return to Lake Winnebago along with fun for the whole family; free kites, bonfire, ice bowling, ice bar, games, food, drink and more!

Wisconsin Snow Sculpting Competition presented by Sunburst Winter Sports Park @ Downtown, outside Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts

The best snow sculptors in the state and surrounding region travel to Fond du Lac to compete in the 2018 Wisconsin Snow Sculpting Competition in hopes of winning a trip to the 2019 US Competition and a $1,000 1st Prize.  No alcohol consumption or possession will be allowed outside of each establishment or event space.

Bring the whole family and some friends downtown to participate in a Snowman building competition before the parade kicks off!  Add to the winter wonderland that is the Main Street Plaza.

Running of the Sturgeon Parade presented by Grande Cheese @ Downtown Fond du Lac (Parade Start: Western Ave. & Main St.)

The Sturgeon Spectacular Parade starts with the Running of the Sturgeon.  The first 50 children, ages 15 and under will receive a light-up Sturgeon Fin for participating.  Grab your friends, and dress up in your favorite Wisconsin garb and join Schmooch Schneider in chasing after and spearing the elusive sturgeon.  Floats will have parking available to join the party on Portland Street.

The parade starts at Western Ave. (Fourth St.) & Main St. and turns right at Sheboygan Street.  Ends at Thelma.

Sturgeon Spectacular Kick-off Celebration and Concert @ Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts

The Sturgeon Spectacular kicks off at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts with live music by Copper Box.  Registration will be open for the 2018 Sturgeon Queen.  Come inside and grab a beverage or hang out on the Plaza and watch the snow sculptors get started. Drinks will be available for purchase.  Food trucks will also be located on-site.

Girls Outdoor Hockey Tournament presented by

Opening Rounds
Girls Hockey Tournament will be held for the first time on the ice rink at Oven Island within Lakeside Park.  A heated tent will be offered for teams to prepare and suit up.  Concessions will be offered by the Fond du Lac Blue Line Ice Skating Center.  Tournament open to teams across the United States.  All participants will receive a commemorative 2018 Sturgeon Spectacular patch.

Sturgeon Spectacular Fun Run & Dog Jog

Come join us for a scenic run throughout Lakeside Park.  The courses will wind through Lakeside Park for an fun tour of Oven Island & Softball Island.  Early registration has been extended.  Early registration is $10 per person and includes a Sturgeon Spectacular long-sleeve T-shirt.  To pre-register, click the link or call the Fond du Lac Visitors Bureau at 920-923-3010.  Proceeds will go toward the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation*.  Late registration (after January 22nd) will not include a Sturgeon Spectacular long-sleeve T-shirt.  *Agnesian HealthCare is now part of SSM Health.

Bring your four-legged friend and participate in the Dog Jog*!  Dogs are free, but owner/handler is required to register for Fun Run.  Please see rules below.

Dog Jog Rules

  1. Please only bring dogs that are well-behaved and used to being around other dogs and people
  2. Dogs should be kept on leash that is shorter than six feet – no retractable leashes, which may be hazardous in a crowd.
  3. Please clean up after your dog – bags are available but you can bring your own
  4. Limit one dog per person
  5. Dogs should be at least six-months-old and up to date on vaccinations
  6. Please remember, no dogs are allowed in the facilities

Come participate in the coolest softball tournament around because we’re playing on the snow.  Fond du Lac Softball, Inc. will be hosting the first ever Winter Softball Classic coed softball tournament.  Play for the trophy and stay for the fun!  There will be a $1,000 guaranteed prize pool.

Lakeside Park Winter Fun Zone presented by Horicon Bank @ Oven Island – Lakeside Park

Bring the whole family out to Lakeside Park to participate in our Winter Fun Zone.  In cooperation with the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac, Horicon Bank will bring you activities throughout the day including Putt Putt in the snow.  Help us sculpt & decorate our Gigantic Sturgeon and play in the other snow mounds.  Play games with Gilbert the Goose and Ollie the Otter from Horicon Bank or test your arm against Weaver from the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders in a fast pitch snow-ball competition. Make sure to take a silly picture inside our Sturgeon Spectacular Family Frame while you’re there!  To keep you warm, there will be hot chocolate for the kids, and coffee for the adults provided by Horicon Bank’s Blue Goose Coffee House.

As part of the Wheel & Sprocket Hugh Jass bike series, racers of all levels will race through Lakeside Park and participate in games like Hammaschlagen along the way.  Demo bikes will be available for anyone interested in trying out a Fat Tire Bike for the first time.  Register here and get more information.

Walk through beautiful downtown Fond du Lac to see these talented carvers create works of art right on the sidewalks of downtown.  Get your picture taken with each one.  Grab a map and ballot at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, and set out for your favorite masterpiece.  Cash Prizes will be awarded for “Best in Show” and also “The People’s Choice”.  Sculptures will be available for viewing as weather allows.

Studio 51 – Learn the Basics of Snow Sculpting

Join experienced ice and snow sculptor, Don Berg to learn the art of snow sculpting.  Don will give an overview of the process, provide a tutorial and teach you how to use the tools.

Fat Tire Fun Ride presented by Attitude Sports @ Attitude Sports
Feb 10 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Take the Fond du Lac Loop south to join the downtown festivities.  All participants that ride their bike to Attitude Sports and bring in their race “bib” will receive a free commemorative Sturgeon Spectacular mug, along with refreshments.  Enter to win a new set of Fat Bike tires while you’re there.  Riders are encouraged to use the Loop path south from Lakeside Park, turn left on Follett and right on Macy to reach Attitude Sports.

Attitude Sports will also be sponsoring a free bike corral* to keep your Fat Bike safe as you enjoy the downtown festivities.  Take advantage of the Spear the Beer Drink Specials, take in a Comedy Sportz or Guys on Ice show at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, or enjoy lots of other the downtown winter festivities.  *Corral will be available until 5pm, so you must pick up bike by that time.

Open Sculpt
Create your own snow sculpture presented by Ahern @ Main Street Plaza

Professional sculptor, Don Berg will work with individuals and families to create their own snow sculpture, just like the professionals.  You will create your own snow form, sculpt and shape it until you’ve created your very own masterpiece.  All those that participate in the Studio 51 – Learn the Basics of Snow Sculpting will be assured a block of snow to sculpt.

Sturgeon Queen Competition presented by The Goldsmith @ Oven Island – Lakeside Park

Come participate in the 2018 Official Sturgeon Queen Competition, or just watch this year’s candidates be tested in sturgeon-themed contests.  Registration will be open at our Downtown and Lakeside Park information booths prior to the competition.  The tradition has come a long way since the first Sturgeon Queen was crowned 64 years ago.  The competition will be held on Oven Island inside Lakeside Park, starting at 5 pm.  The official crowing will take place inside the heated tent shelter at the intermission of the Boogie & The Yo yo’z Concert, tentatively scheduled for 8:30 pm.

Outdoor Hockey Alumni Classic presented by Alliant Energy & Baker Cheese @ Drexel Building Supply Ice Rink at Lakeside Park

Fond du Lac High School/LP Goodrich Alumni face off against Saint Mary’s Springs Alumni for the 1st Annual Outdoor Hockey Alumni Classic as part of the Sturgeon Spectacular.  Alumni from both schools test their skills under the lights on an outdoor rink at Lakeside Park.  Come out and cheer for your team!
